According to the World Health Organization, pathologies of the musculoskeletal system in developed countries rank second among causes of disability in less than two weeks, after respiratory diseases, but first in periods of more than two weeks. In general, 9.6% of men and 18% of women over the age of 60 are diagnosed with arthrosis of various sites. In developed countries, arthrosis is prevalent - 14.1% of men and 22.8% of women over the age of 45 are diagnosed with pathology. These indices show a clear upward trend due to the aging of the population.
The Biophilia Tracker system and software and the 3D visualization of the knee joint are used to study the knee joint.
The diagnostic value of NLS-contrast imaging for knee pathology is very high for non-invasive methods. It has been shown that in acute trauma of the knee, NLS imaging reliably reduces the time required for diagnosis, improves the quality of life in the first 6 weeks after the trauma and reduces the overall costs. We also note the relatively high reliability of the study of damaged menisci; at the same time some authors recommend trusting more 3D NLS scans than CT and MRI in doubtful cases. The first signs of degenerative changes in articular cartilage are shown quite well in the form of separation of the fiber surface, because doing so requires very high resolution - down to 30 microns, and the "Biophilia" system has such resolution characteristics. The evaluation of the condition of the anterior cruciate ligament, which is quite difficult with the systems of the previous generation, can be successfully accomplished using systems with 3D visualization.
Compared with CT and MRI, three-dimensional nonlinear scanning is of particular importance as a highly informative method for the diagnosis of knee pathologies, firstly due to the lower cost of the studies, and at the same time the diagnostic advantages of the latter are not so obvious in this field. This fact is evidenced by the increasing use of NLS systems in orthopedics.
We tried to improve the diagnostic possibilities of NLS scans by extensively applying three-dimensional modalities for visualization of morphological structures, such as 4D tissue, multiple scans in three mutually perpendicular planes, depth vision, fast vision and ultramicroscopic scanning with spectral entropy analysis (SEA).
For proper ultramicroscopy, the resolution of NLS systems must not exceed 30 microns, and for cytological studies - less than 10 microns, so the only real way to achieve this is to use 3D visualization algorithms such as MIP (maximum intensity projection, MPR (multiplanar reconstruction) and DVR (direct volume rendering).
Biophilia Tracker is committed to solving more medical problems and making detection and treatment more convenient.
